The 21st International Seaweed Symposium will be held in Bali

About 50 countries are expected to attend the symposium on international seaweed commodities, “The 21st International Seaweed Symposium" in Bali, April 21-26, 2013.

“About 50 countries representative will attend on the occasion,” said Head of Indonesia Seaweed Association (ISA), Mr. Safari Azis in the press conference held at the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Tower.

The ISS is a scientific and business meeting held every three years and the first time was held in Edinburg, England, in 1952. Indonesia is chosen as an organizer country to held the 21st ISS, as been decided in the 20 ISS in Ensenada, Mexico, in 2010

“Indonesia has been chosen as the place for the event and can be a good opportunity to indicate the presence of all the result that has been achieved as producer and manager of seaweed," he said.

The ISS held in Bali has the theme “Seaweed Science for Sustainable Prosperity” and stressed the importance of scientific research role in cultivation development and seaweed utility. Safari said the symposium consist of programs such as research result discussion, trader exhibition and business meeting.

“With all the beneficial result from this 21st ISS occasion, all parties are invited to contribute their though and use this as a business opportunity, because it can be resource to strengthen national seaweed industry,” said Safari.

The 21st International Symposium Seaweed supported by Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, State Minister for Acceleration Development Backward Regions, Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Bali, Provincial Government of Bali, Regional Government of Badung District, Indonesia Seaweed Association (ISA) and Bakrie University.
